AT THE CROSS: Hardened Skeptic

The Roman centurion who oversaw the crucifixion of Jesus was a hardened skeptic, transformed by what he witnessed. Beyond the few words spoken by him at the cross, Scripture gives us no more details.  But there are things we can know about this unnamed soldier at the cross.

    John is know as "the disciple whom Jesus loved.  He was also known as being quick tempered.  But John was transformed by the love and power of Jesus.  John was also the only disciple at the cross.  He was the last man standing.  Why?

    Mary Magdalene was a woman who had been set free from the oppression of demons.  She had been forgiven much by Jesus.  As a result, she loved much.  She served her Lord with her life, her substance, her service, and her loyalty.

    Mary is a key character at the cross of Jesus.  Mary spent a lifetime grappling with the conflict of joy and anxiety in her heart as the woman who was chosen to give birth to the Messiah.  Mary had to release a son in order to gain a Savior.  Her gain was far greater than her loss.
