Last Minute Pardon
The power of the President of the United States to pardon a condemned criminal is great, but cannot compare to the power of Jesus Christ to grant the ultimate pardon resulting in forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life.  This is what Jesus did for the repentant thief on the cross next to him--an amazing last minute pardon.

THIEVES & SCOUNDRELS: Simon–A Hideous Burden
Simon of Cyrene had a hideous burden to carry when he was forced into service by the Roman guard to carry the cross of Jesus.  What was he thinking?  How did this event change his life and what does that mean for you and me?

THIEVES & SCOUNDRELS: Barabbas–Guilty Set Free
Barabbas, a condemned prisoner, was set free when Pilate caved to the political pressure put on him by the Jewish leaders.  While this decision was tragic on the one hand, this was good news for you and me and a part of God's sovereign plan for the redemption of us all.

    THIEVES & SCOUNDRELS: Despicable Traitor
The crucifixion of Jesus was brought about at the hands of thieves and scoundrels, the  worst of which  was Judas, the traitor who betrayed his rabbi and master.

God calls each of us to a life of sacrifice, to stand even in the face of death.  For the first century church, this was considered a privilege to identify with the sufferings of Christ.  Most of us, however, view suffering for Christ as a strange phenomenon and we feel more like victims than victors. Acts 8:1-4; Hebrews 11:1-40

When Jesus invited us to take up our cross and follow Him, He was not calling us to a life of ease and comfort, but to a life of purpose, adventure and the highest risk--our very lives.  Part of that calling involves using whatever position or station in life that we have been given to influence others for what is good and right and for the glory of God.

    STAND: Against Giants
    Series: Stand
Giants are everywhere--people, systems and circumstances that can be overwhelming and disheartening.  But God has not given His people a spirit of fear but of courage and a sound mind (1 Timothy 1:7).  After all, "if God is for us, who can be against us" (Romans 8:31).  They're just giants.

When the Egyptian Pharaoh was bent on exterminating the Jewish male children, he sought to enlist the aid of the midwives of the Hebrews.  Little did he expect that his evil plans would be thwarted by two gutsy women who had  the courage to stand against the most powerful man in the ancient world.  There is a modern genocide under way with the extermination of the unborn.  We need the same kind of courage to stand against evil in defense of life. Exodus 1:8-22

Standing against evil is difficult to do.  Difficult times call for courageous men and women who recognize that we are at war with the forces of evil; men and women who understand that they cannot stand against this formidable foe without depending wholly upon God and His resources; men and women who also know that with the armor God provides, and in His strength alone, we can not only stand, but are more than conquerors.  "Greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

    Further Up & Further In
    Series: Stand
The New Year is for most of us a time of new beginnings.  It is a time when we look back on the year past and re-calibrate for the in front of us.  We need to be reminded frequently that God is always calling His children "further up" in their understanding and knowledge of Him and "further in" in intimacy with Christ and His indwelling Spirit.  Not one of us has yet been fully transformed into the likeness of Christ, but God's will is that each of us would grow more like Him in 2019 than in years past.  To that end, let's press on.
