TRAINING IN GODLINESS: True Sacrifice
When you think about “sacrifice,” what do you most commonly thing about?  War Veterans? Baseball? Diet? What parents do for children? Putting off a needed purchase?   Though there may be an element of sacrifice in each of these, in its original and deepest meaning, sacrifice involved the death of a living creature as payment or atonement for sin.

BE LIKE JESUS: Bulls & China
Of all the Christian graces (attributes of Christ), research indicates that this is the most illusive of them all.  By self-admission, this is the one that most of us struggle with the most.  We are more often like the proverbial "bull in the china shop."  What difference would it make if husbands would choose "gentleness" over chauvinism and bullying?  What difference would it make if wives would choose "gentleness" over badgering and nagging? Matthew 11:29; Philippians 4:5

BE LIKE JESUS: Good & Kind
What does it mean to be kind?  What does it mean to be good?  With all of the things that are fake or phony around us it is an urgent matter that God's people display the real fruit of goodness and kindness.  The world needs to taste and see the kindness of Jesus. Luke 6:27-36; Ephesians 4:31-32

    BE LIKE JESUS: Hidden Strength
If you are Christian – a redeemed Child of God – it is God’s will that you grow in patience.  It is expected of you.  Guess what that means?  Your patience will be tried whether you pray for patience or not.  So, why is patience important?  How do I tap into the hidden strength of patience?   1 Timothy 1:15-16; Hebrews 6:1-3, 12

BE LIKE JESUS: Anchored by Hope
The world is a desperate place with many giving in to despair.  People simply can't live without hope.  Is your hope an anchor that will hold in the worst of times and till the end of time, or is your hope temporal and merely wishful thinking.  The Hope of every Christian is an anchor for the soul which will hold for all eternity.

    BE LIKE JESUS: Choose Peace
In a world where conflict, trouble and war surround us on a daily basis, where do you go to find peace?  Is peace even possible?

SUMMER AT THE SEASIDE: Walking on Water
Following the feeding of the five-thousand, the disciples are about to encounter their first real test of faith where Jesus is not visibly present with them.  Overwhelming fear turns to courage (in regard to Peter); courage returns to fear then to  profound awe, wonder and worship.  How will we handle the storms of life that will inevitably come; when we don't sense the presence of Christ?  How will we handle Jesus' invitation to do what seems impossible?  Will we have the courage to step out of the boat?  Will we keep our focus on Jesus or our surrounding circumstances?  Will we walk on water or will we sink in despair?

SUMMER AT THE SEASIDE: Surprise Picnic
At the height of Jesus' popularity Jesus subtly, but intentionally leads crowds of people to follow Him into the middle of nowhere.  He is about to put both His disciples and the crowd to a test.  There are things that we can learn for this testing as well. Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17; John 6:1-15

SUMMER AT THE SEASIDE: About Dirt and Hearts
Jesus most often taught using parables, which are for more than a clever allegories with a moral.  They were not mere illustrations but contained the very heart and meat of His message.  That message would reveal truth to some and conceal it from others. In this particular parable, the "kingdom fruitfulness" of a life was dependent upon the heart of each individual. Mark 4:1-20
