“Have To” or “Get To”

“For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ,
not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Hi
-Philippians 1:29

LIFE IS AN AMAZING ADVENTURE.  It is full of ups and downs, joys and sorrows.  We all face challenges and hardships we dread or wish we could avoid but can’t—the “have tos” of life.  There are also a lot of blessings and joys along the way—the “get tos” of life.

I wonder—which list is longer?  Are there more “have tos” than “get tos” in my life?  How about yours?

Ponder This

“Those who walk uprightly enter into peace;
they find rest as they lie in death.”
-Isaiah 57:2

YOU HAVE HEARD IT SAID, “Sometimes the good die young.”   Well, as I was reading through the Scripture the other morning, a particular passage caught my attention.  It highlighted something we rarely consider, and when we do, we almost always struggle with.

Redeeming Time

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,
making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”
-Ephesians 5:15-16

HAVE YOU EVER INVESTED TIME AND ENERGY into someone or something only to, in a moment of exasperation, declare, “That was a waste!”?  Through the years I have held that sentiment more times than I can count.

None of us likes to waste time. . . .   Let me put that another way.  None of us likes having our time wasted by another.

This is the Life

“How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!
For there the LORD bestows His blessing, even life forevermore
-Psalm 133:1, 3b
There really is nothing more good and pleasant than the blessing of family living together in unity.  There really is nothing more ugly and miserable than family that is fractured, hateful and warring, which is far too often the case.  What God intends as the highest good becomes the most despicable evil when Satan twists it.

The Danger of Prayerless Assumptions

“Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it
for the L
ORD is with you.”
-2 Samuel 7:3

When David shared his heart’s desire for building a place of worship for God, and a home for the Ark of the Covenant, Nathan (a holy man and prophet of God Almighty) assumed that it was a desire and an ambition that would be blessed of God.

Nothing Less

“I will not offer to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”
-2 Samuel 24:24

WORSHIP IS THAT DIVINE AND HEAVENLY activity in which we take part, declaring the supreme worth of Almighty God, our Creator, Sustainer and Redeemer.   That praise should be both joyful and passionate.  Paul instructs us that everything we do is to be an act or expression of worship.

Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

-Colossians 3:17

When it comes to worship, there is a very valuable lesson we need to learn from Israel’s, King David.  Near the end of his life and reign David
